Gisèle Galante Chulack was born and raised in Paris. She first traveled to America when she was just a toddler to be with her mother, Olivia de Havilland, for the filming of The Proud Rebel (1958). Later, while Gisèle was still at law school, she was an extra in several movies. She then practiced law for three years. After resigning from the bar, she became a television reporter for the French TV channel Canal Plus, a radio host for the French radio channel France Inter, and a reporter for Elle magazine and Paris Match. She worked at Paris Match for 27 years in France and later in the U.S. In 1993, she met her late husband, architect, developer and art collector, Edward Broida, and moved to Florida. He passed away in Malibu in 2006. In 2008, she met her current husband, two-time Emmy-winning TV editor Andrew Chulack.

After she retired from Paris Match, Gisèle volunteered for 12 years at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center as a patient liaison.

In 2020, Olivia passed away and Gisèle spent almost four years clearing out her mother’s four-story house in Paris. In January 2026, following her mother’s wish, Gisèle donated Olivia’s vast archive to the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, Texas.

Now she and her husband share their time between Santa Monica, Santa Fe, and Paris.  When in Santa Monica, Gisèle and Andy help to take care of Smith, a whippet, who suffers from separation anxiety. When in Santa Fe, Gisèle volunteers for ADW, Assistance Dogs of the West.

Gisèle and Andy just returned this summer from a life-changing safari in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa, organized by Andy for Gisèle’s 70th birthday.
